Best buy wanted a new brand of mobile accessories that would appeal to young, hyper-mobile consumers.
The products had to be iconic, budget-friendly, and generate buzz in a way their current private brands couldn’t. Most importantly, a strong private brand would help combat showrooming by offering compelling products only available at Best Buy.
Mobile accessories have become commoditized. A phone charger is a phone charger, and a $20 speaker is a $20 speaker. But low price points can create opportunities for bold visual designs that would be too risky on a pricier product. This belief is embodied in our design theme: Modular Candy.
Working with Ziba’s multidisciplinary team, I bounced between sticky-note ideation, sketching, CAD, 2d illustration,and rough hand-prototyping.
